West Maui Land Company, Inc., founded in 1996, has grown from a two man shop to a full service land management team and real estate brokerage firm. Serving as a liaison for the landowners, West Maui Land Company, Inc. (WML) facilitates all aspects of land management from initial acquisition, to subdivision, and real estate sales to the end buyer. Mahanalua Nui, Olowalu Makai/Mauka, Pu'unoa, Makila, Kahoma, Launiupoko Water Company, LLC and Launiupoko Irrigation Company, LLC are current client projects that West Maui Land Company, Inc. (WML) manages. WML assists clients with due diligence at initial purchase, conceptual planning, consultant coordination, documentation, permitting, infrastructure, land leasing and sales, agricultural direction and continued communications with the end user. WML also manages three water companies servicing the Launiupoko and Olowalu areas. Specializing in agricultural properties in West Maui, WML has successfully assisted clients in developing agricultural lots with dual water systems on the island of Maui.

West Maui Land Company, Inc. has helped their client projects revitalize the sugar lands abandoned in the mid to late 1990s. By restoring and augmenting preexisting plantation infrastructure systems in Olowalu and Launiupoko areas, these lands and communities are being reenergized with the goal to facilitate small-scale farming and ranching. A growing trend toward diversified agriculture, farms in operation include tomatoes, avocados, bananas, papayas, and plants including herbs, cut flowers, landscaping plant stock, palms and native plants. More and more families are finding that lot sizes and evolving trail systems complement their love of horses. In addition to family farms and equestrian pursuits, Makila Cattle Co. is a new venture in partnership with the Maui Cattle Company that expects to herd 600 head of cattle on 400 acres in a stocker operation. All of these operations serve to cultivate a variety of products for the Maui community and foster the spirit and benefit of local business and the private sector. The founders and team of WML is proud of the projects that have grown under their management.

WML has grown along with the success of their client projects from team of two to a twenty person company. In 1996, after working together for over 20 years building homes, developing projects and selling real estate, two entrepreneurial men, Peter Martin and Jim Riley, decided to combine their complimentary skill set, values, and goals, and joined to create West Maui Homes. Martin and Riley's background in real estate and construction have provided a strong foundation over the past ten years to WML team and client base. With a name change and bringing in a third partner, Glenn Tremble, West Maui Land Company, Inc. is excited to see what the next decade brings.

An avid mountain biker, Peter Martin for years enjoyed riding through the sugar cane fields in West Maui - especially along the old, plantation ditches with their a gentle slope - and encouraged the client projects to establish a Greenway Corridor to preserve and enhance this pathway to maintain a sense of connection and place throughout the area. The dream is that the greenway, 'The Honokohau Ditch Trail," will stretch 25 miles along the ditch from Olowalu to Kapalua, where the lands fall under separate management. West Maui Land Company, Inc. is working to involve these landowners in preserving this continuous pathway for outdoor recreation, creating a green belt that is ideal for cyclists, runners, walkers and even horses!
WML encourages and supports client projects in participation with The Nature Conservancy and the West Maui Mountains Watershed Partnership. Both groups strive to protect the indigenous plants and animals while controlling invasive plants and animal populations in the upper West Maui Mountains.

As all lands managed by WML are agricultural, providing cost effective irrigation water that does not conflict with the drinking water needs is critical in promoting farming pursuits. WML manages three PUC regulated water companies servicing the Olowalu and Launiupoko areas. In order to provide irrigation water, WML assisted the water companies in revitalizing the main arteries of the former plantation irrigation system including refurbishing existing tunnels and reservoirs, and updating the filter system to today's standards. The various irrigation systems route water from Olowalu Stream, Launiupoko Stream, Kauaula Stream, and Kahoma Stream, diverting it through tunnels to temporary storage a reservoirs, ultimately providing lots with agricultural water. A team is in place at WML to maintain the system, administer all water meter applications, installation, and process monthly billing for the water utilities.

West Maui Land Company, Inc. remains available and in close contact with the residents of the client projects, and have launched this website to help people living in Mahanalua Nui, Olowalu Mauka, Olowalu Makai, Pu'unoa, Makila, and Kahoma with frequently asked questions, document management, and pertinent public notices. We are also here to assist potential buyers and owners in these agricultural communities and other areas of Maui with professional real estate transactions.
